Organization of the software testing process

Everyone makes mistakes. Today, when we are surrounded by IT systems and our lives often literally depend on software, software errors can be very expensive. Testing reduces product risk and protects against problems. Only with the right procedures can you ensure that the right areas are validated and tested and that products get to market on time.

We know that every company is different. Therefore, improving a work area is not a simple matter and can be done in many ways. Our activities vary depending on the type of company we are dealing with and its operating model. For large and mature companies, we conduct organizational and process audits based on recognized standards such as COBIT, ISO 15504 or Test Process Improvement (TPI). This type of approach allows us to assess the organization against global standards and compare it with other companies in its class.

For smaller facilities with repetitive production processes that are often undocumented, we propose an informal assessment of these processes, looking for organizational strengths and weaknesses and informal operating procedures. Based on the observation and analysis of the results carried out together with the management, we determine the introduction of repeatable procedures and processes, norms and standards based on IEEE, ISO, ISTQB, IRQB, etc. at such a level of formalization as is necessary to achieve the set objectives.

For very small companies, a common part of streamlining is to conduct employee training and methodology training, introduce documentation standards or improve communication within the company.

Regardless of the size of the company, an indispensable element of streamlining can be the introduction of a tool to support the work of the project team. We know from experience that tools work best when there is a repeatable process that can be evaluated. As a result of the evaluation, we know which tool is most useful for the company and what benefits it brings.
